Ever since we returned to Barcelona from our summer in Miami, our weekends have been filled with activities and get-togethers with friends who are slowly trickling back into the city after a month off for vacation. It's been wonderful to be back in our apartment (especially after our summer house guests left it in such perfect condition!), visiting our favorite local spots, and hanging out just the three of us again.
Here's some stuff we've been up to this past weekend:
One thing we really missed while we were in Miami is readily available fresh bread. Our Barcelona apartment sits three stories above a bakery which is very dangerous as you can imagine. The smell of freshly baked bread is constantly wafting through the apartment and it's very hard to resist. Which is why we don't try to. :)
It seems like everyone in Barcelona has a dog and they go everywhere with them. Because of this, most stores, cafes and restaurants have little hooks outside of them so that you can leash your dog while you go in and make a purchase or grab some coffee. When the Professor and I moved here we were so impressed by the way dogs just patiently, calmly and quietly wait for their owners without barking at every passing person, or struggling against their restraints. Imagine what self-control it must take for this little pup to see his owner buying a juicy piece of meat at this butcher without lunging himself inside, smacking his lips in anticipation. I don't know that I would behave as well if this were a doughnut shop for instance.
We have friends who live in the San Antoni neighborhood of Barcelona and it seems like there is always a trendy bar or cafe opening its doors in this area. This place above is called Cafe Cometa and it has become one of our favorites not only because of it's scrumptious carrot cake, but also because of the colorful and cute decor. I deeply heart that gallery wall.
This picture was also taken at the Cafe Cometa. It's pretty challenging to take Roman out nowadays because he seems to never want to sit down anymore. He wants to run and touch and grab. While it is sometimes pretty frustrating trying to keep him still in our laps, we can't help but laugh at his constant need to escape our arms and make a break for freedom. He looks so triumphant in this picture, wouldn't you say? Naughty monkey.
So that's what we've been up to this past weekend. What did you guys do?
